Best stretches and who they’re for

Cannon Beach

The easiest stretch for a first visit, toward Haystack Rock Marine Garden. City beaches page: jointly managed State and municipality; free for public use. Midtown (S. Hemlock & Gower) is the closest Chamber-noted Haystack access; Tolovana Wayside for beach-adjacent parking. Dogs: leash or voice control (City). Motor vehicles on beach only with Police/OPRD permit (permit access at Tolovana Wayside). Seasonal lifesaving late May–early September (City). Check the meter signs on the day.

Indian Beach

Inside Ecola State Park. Day-use parking permit (1-day on-site); limited parking; overnight parking prohibited. Developed park areas: pets leash up to 6 ft; ocean shore: OPRD direct-control dog rules (carry a leash). Clatsop Loop Trail west section CLOSED until further notice (active landslide, effective Apr 17, 2026). Drones not allowed (nesting shorebirds).

Seaside Beach

City of Seaside Promenade (12th Avenue–Avenue U); beach access at Turnaround / Broadway. Free public lots per Visitors Bureau. Vehicles on the Prom: bicycles / utility / emergency only. Mobi-Mat at 12th Ave & Avenue U. Confirm dog hours on the day.

Notes before you pack

  • Dogs: On Cannon Beach city beach pages, dogs are allowed on leash or under voice control with the owner ensuring physical control. On the Oregon ocean shore (OPRD rules on Ecola / Tolovana pages), handlers must keep direct control, carry a leash, leash promptly if ordered, prevent harassment, and remove waste — developed State Park areas require leash up to 6 feet. Seaside / Manzanita dog hours: follow on-site municipal signs. City dogs on the beach · Ecola / OPRD excerpt.
  • Flags / surf: Prefer NWS Portland / marine products and on-site lifeguard or posted warnings — rip tides and sneaker waves are real Pacific hazards. Seasonal Cannon Beach lifesaving late May–early September (City Beaches page).
  • Cannon Beach, Seaside, and Manzanita are separate municipalities; Indian Beach is reached through Ecola State Park.
  • Oregon State Parks day-use parking permits are required at Tolovana / Ecola; 2025 Oregon Coast Passports are honored through expiration — confirm 2026 passport rules before you rely on one.
  • Tide predictions for this corridor: Chamber cites North Jetty WA (Columbia River entrance) — NOAA CO-OPS 9440574.
